Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway

Nourishing Bethesda’s Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway

November 11, 2022

Bethesda, MD – Nourishing Bethesda announces its special Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway on Friday, November 18, at 1 pm, at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad on Battery Lane. Registered clients of the local non-profit will receive the ingredients for a bountiful Thanksgiving meal including a large chicken, tray of fixings, pie, and bag of coffee. This special event is possible thanks to a community-wide effort sponsored by local business, faith, and non-profit organizations, including Simply Fresh Events, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bethesda and Potomac congregations, Sunrise Senior Living, and Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company. Clients will also be able to take home donated warm coats.

For many, Thanksgiving is a time of abundance, but it can be an especially difficult time for Nourishing Bethesda’s clients, whose lives are defined by scarcity, exacerbated by high inflation and loss of benefits. A surprising number of those who live and work in Bethesda struggle to feed their families each week, and buying food for a holiday dinner is not possible.

The mission of Nourishing Bethesda, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed under the auspices of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Norwood Parish, is to fight food insecurity by providing nutritious food and community support to neighbors in need, as well as offering and linking clients to wraparound resources that will enable them to build healthier and more stable lives.

During its two years of operation, Nourishing Bethesda has given away nearly a million pounds of nutritious food to many thousands of recipients. Nourishing Bethesda operations are supported by Montgomery County, donations, and grants.
